CVE GOING GREEN

RIVERDALE, N.J.As more and more companies recognize their corporate responsibility of taking care of the environment, CVE, Inc. is doing its part by initiating a new corporate “Going Green” campaign to minimize company waste.  A large reverse logistics service provider based in Riverdale, NJ, CVE receives and processes an immense volume of product through its facility, most of which contains Styrofoam packaging.  This was not only contributing waste, but also creating a large waste expense.

“Styrofoam consists of about 98% air, so although it is extremely efficient in its use, once it has been used, its bulk becomes problematic since it takes up too much space in landfills, explains George Song, Manager of Business Development and Operations.  “I thought CVE was committing too much waste and as a result I found a solution to significantly reduce our contribution to the waste problem.”

By recycling the Styrofoam that is used in packaging, CVE will be able to significantly reduce waste going into Northeast landfills.  Some of the recycled byproducts are made into consumer household plastic items such as picture frames, egg cartons, lunch trays, video and audio cassette casings as well as bathroom fixtures including countertops, sinks and tub/shower surrounds.

What used to be sent to landfills is now being handled in CVE’s 90,000 square foot facility.  The recycled materials are used by other manufacturers to create new consumer products.   Styrofoam is processed through a heat extrusion process which reduces the Styrofoam to 10% of its original size.  This end product, called “ingot,” is then bagged and shipped to the manufacturer.

“Companies need to be environmentally responsible, that is a must,” says CEO Edward Cho.  We are continuing to find new ways to employ greener practices within our company.  We want to be a positive example and leader to others in the community and show them that with a little bit of effort, we can make this world a better place for all.”
